Why did all species of snake lose their legs after the garden of Eve?

Did God punish all different snake species for the sins of one snake species or was there only one species of snake in the garden of Eve and after sin they evolved into different species?

Mosasaurs kept their legs as flippers until they went extinct. God did not punish them. Why?

God took the snake's legs as punishment for displeasing Him, because He could and because He knew the snake would one day destroy the world and rebirth it without God.
