It doesn't work like you think it does. When people ask why, they arrive at different conclusions. Religion was an extension of that, and of culture, until it wasn't. It has become a way of steering people rather than being an affirming communal point which unifies individuals into something more than they were alone.
People see the complexity and beauty in life, then question what created it. they arrive at many different conclusions.
So, it's not about "hearing voices", but trying to connect with divinity/source.
People feel a connection to these things too, sure, but this is not that. Your image was made in ignorance of in malice.
Either way, you are misrepresenting them.

When I was a kid, I knew Santa and God were made up bullshit, but I always wondered why adults still pretended to believe in God. Even the oldest ones. Especially when all the shit they taught us in Sunday school was boring stories about dumb sand people, and God was a fucking asshole to most of them.
