There are only 2 sure fire ways out of the draft

1. You leave the country and renounce your citizenship. You will NEVER come back, even if you momma is dying and they need you. No school, no job, no golden passport, no reentry period. Think long and hard before you leave.

2. You enlist or commission voluntarily. If you get drafted you will go Army or Marines if they really like you. Your MOS will be infantry and you will go front lines. If you volunteer, then you can pick your job and branch, like Air Force, IT support or USN, Fire Controlman.

Many didn't renounce though. They just escaped the draft, they were wanted felons. If you leave and renounce your citizenship and adopt a new citizenship then you are no longer a citizen. It's hard though because the IRS and draft office don't want you to leave for obvious reasons. They will sandbag your renouncement declaration and outright reject it if you aren't on it. Weebs who move to Japan learn this the hard way. Some countries won't let you own property until you become full citizens of their country and do not accept dual citizenship. Once you are free then you are on your own because you can't come back. You basically have to hop the border the hard way to come back. If there is a war then they really don't want you back.

Maybe, you have to really show aptitude in a field to get it. You can convert your draft into enlistment and they will reclass you. I know the draft in Vietnam had some people draft for 2 years and enlistment is 4 years. If you are in for 2 years then you can guarantee they won't train you well and will only give you easy tasks, ie front line combat. Even if you have a degree they won't let you commission because that requires massive investment and training time if you end up getting drafted. If you volunteer then you nullify all that uncertainty and go in and out on your terms. My dad enlisted and never got sent to Vietnam, he got stationed in Korea as a truck driver and his brother went Navy as a electronic tech on a carrier.

Yeah lol I was tempted by the promise of 90k but I googled it and found universally negative reviews ranging from "my hair started falling out at age 20 from stress" to "my wife left me".
