Planes are extremely complex and the way the plane dropped out of the sky is very strange and hard to do through incompetence. Even with no flaps the 2 giant engines provide enough power to have a slow climb rate for a bit before stalling.
This looks like complete power loss. Probably poor engine maintenance causing a critical failure.
