Iran has been cowardly for a long time. Iran did nothing while Hezbollah was castrated in Lebanon, Iran did nothing as a Mossad agent took over Syria, etc. And apparently, Iran did very little to prepare for the obvious possibility of an Israeli/American strike. They kind of deserve to lose for not taking their military/geopolitical situation very seriously.

In fact, we can reasonably guess the Iranian government's reaction right now:
