If you don't want America to care then Russia or China will happily step in and take America's place.

There will always be strong hegemonic powers and weak powers. This is basic geopolitics. It's just a question of whether you want your own country in that position or an adversary.

As a "normal person", I don't feel any of this power. Or, more accurately, there hasn't been a time when the US hasn't been "on top" enough that I have felt what it is like to not be on top.
