China is busy expanding its economic sphere of influence. They've conquered many types of manufacturing, from solar cells to electronics assembly. They're currently busy conquering automobiles and petrochemicals. They're aiming for AI, microchips, aerospace and much more.

As for geopolitical sphere of influence, China would rather invest trillions of dollars into high speed rail and green energy to be independent of oil imports, than invest trillions of dollars into destroying the Middle East. The only geopolitics they really care about is keeping the American influence away from their immediate border (e.g. Vietnam war, Korean war)
