Israel technically isn’t supposed to have nukes either, and publicly does not acknowledge they exist. The US actually staunchly opposed them acquiring nukes back in the day, but they managed to develop them secretly with help from South Africa. Now that they already have them, there’s simply nothing anybody can do about it.

Because they already have them. Its a lot easier to prevent someone from having nukes vs taking their nukes away. For our interests, it is best to prevent anyone else from getting nukes, but taking away nukes just isn't feasible. Its the same reason North Korea is ""allowed"" to have nukes.
