Average of 2%. Lets assume appreciation of equities matches inflation. 4% rule becomes 1% rule, your retirement nest egg has now quadrupled. 40k a year in retirement is now 4,000,000 invested, more than majority of high earners will ever make in their entire life (once you factor in taxes). Now you will never retire. But yaaaa dividends.

The idea that the stock market will return 6-7% of real gains every year is the only thing that is saving you from working until you die.
