The rise of China was always a pipe dream. Many decades ago they made major mistakes that completely fucked their long-term ambitions, By the time they realized their mistakes, they were already in full collapse. Even their population numbers are fake. Less than a billion people now. Only Africa's numbers are faker. They had to resort to increasingly fucked up currency manipulations and that still hasn't been enough. Their people have so little trust in their own economy that they resorted to increasingly deranged get-rich-quick schemes to try and avoid the worst of it, but those bubbles have now all popped. This recent trade war twisted the knife and killed drop shopping and no amount of distractions can change the market fundamentals. People would rather have jeets make their plastic garbage now.

As for military, we're talking about a country that can't project power beyond a few miles of their shores. They only have a bunch of small boats, a few Russia-style wonder weapons for PR, and zero logistics or command capability.

After they finish contracting, they'll probably end up basically like Russia is now. And after China watched Russia fuck up trying to beat Ukraine, they know Taiwan is permanently out of reach.
