Tipping culture in the US is absolutely retarded. The whole thing of staff relying on and expecting tips to supplement their income is also retarded. The job should pay, what its worth, period. If its not enough, I don't care, don't apply for it. If they can't attract staff and go out of business, I don't care. Its outrageous both put it on the customer.

Living wage fee is a forced tip. The reason is tips are not taxed. That is why tipping culture is big in America. It allows businesses to operate below a tax threshold while continuing to offer low prices.

A living wage fee sorta breaks this social contract. It ups the price of the food as of course not everyone can tip.

All I want is an agreed upon price of food & services whereby if paid- servers will the shut the fuck up and forfeit the right to demand more.
That's it. Make it 18%, bake it into the price, idagf. Stop making me play a game of "Guess the minimum amount of gratuity to not piss this person off"

fuck I hate this shit, the whole food service industry here is fucked, after travelling I realized how much better it is elsewhere in the world. In Japan you just pay what's listed on the menu. If you need the server you just call them over. When you pay you just get up when you're done and pay at the front. And most of the time you can just order through a QR code. Having to wait on the server to come to you is bullshit.

If the service or food sucks I'm just not going back there, I'm not paying an extra 5% because you interrupted my meal constantly

I tip the wagies because I've done food service before and it really sucks. People are never more picky with anything than their food. And the pay sucks. The environment sucks. The bosses suck. The customers sometimes suck. If I can throw the poor wagie 5$ to brighten their day I'll do it, even with takeout.

Had I never worked food service I probably wouldn't tip them either.

Mother fucker what do you think the cost of my meal is already supposed to cover.
I remember I ate at a Korean BBQ place once and on check out they refused to take debit and also refused to close the transaction if I cancelled the tip they added themselves without my consent and without telling me.
I paid what I owed for the meal and not the tip and they got super mad.

I'll tip sometimes but honestly fuck you if you demand one.

Tipping isn't enough of an industry scam.
Restaurant industry doubles down on tricking customers into paying the restaurant employees.

just don't blame the wait staff for this bullshit.
blame the restaurant owners - and the government that allows this.

If you had ever worked food service you might have some empathy. I think it should be mandatory for everyone who gets food from a restaurant or store. You have to have worked at least a year at some food joint then you get your slop loicense.

I don't work food service anymore, so your comment doesn't personally involve me.

Because not once did any of those hungover, useless fucks that work front of house ever pass a tip onto me.
Waitstaff are replaceable dregs, the people who actually deserve tips are the cunts coming in at 5am to prep and open shop, not the half awake roastie leaning on the counter chatting for ten minutes before deigning to run plates from the pass.

I've worked at places where that was ostensibly the policy.
Every time the waitstaff just pocketed most of it, because they're the ones who actually handle the money, and because anyone who actually works front of house is either a teenager who gives no fucks, or an adult who has badly failed at life and 6/10 times has a crippling addiction of some sort.
