The more I read about history this seems pretty civilized by the standard of the era. Whenever they want to tell you colonialism was bad they neglect to mention the contemporary rule before colonials.

How about school systems or basic government? Hygiene improvements? Basic medicine? Nope. Because Christians believe that the world is inherently imperfect. Shiites also believe this. Knowing that the flawed world will remain flawed no matter what your actions are has a tempering effect on any movement to build a society around the religion.

Sunnis have no such belief and movements like isis literally believe that they are bringing about paradise on earth if they just try hard enough.
