There have been a lot of things going on in china where the big question is, where are all the fucking people?
couple of years ago CCP even had to adjust their official numbers where they lost a 100 million people on the population count.
The big problem is, in all the towns, provinces, etc... the local goverments, polticians get subsidized based on how many people they have.
And all of them have been massively overstating how many they have to get more money.
And if it was only a few places this would not be a problem, but by the looks of it all of china does it, there are rural regions out there with as many people living in it as the big cities in china, and it just doesnt add up.
There is a reason why the CCP is panicking and taking so many measures to make woman have more children now in china.

Xi's policies have been a disaster in recent years. His popularity is waning as there are no more low branch improvements for the peasant classes, while his pivot to the middle class is fucking over the rich and the poor, putting millions of freshly graduated university students on the streets while preventing those with means from sending their children/assets off to wealthy tier-two countries like Australia or Canada to make wealth. China is fast approaching the middle income trap, if China becomes rich and all its cities become futuristic tech hubs then all its manufacturing power dries up as Bangladesh, Indonesia or Vietnam and all the other barely industrialised countries are vying for their global position. Add in there negative population growth and missing millions and even the wealthy American billionaires aren't dumping in the millions upon millions of USD like they used to, and this is all without the nudge of Trump's tariffs.

Throw in the murmurs from Hong Kong's stuff, the fucking over of Macau gambling dens, and so on there is now more and more support within China to flip to Taiwan's side. Tibet and the Buddhists gain more authority as the Myanmar war drags on and puts militarist Buddhists in positions of power in the region. Xinjiang and the Afghan inspired radicals that forced the genocide are given a far longer leash as China cannot lose face of losing territory on the world stage. Even the bloody Koreans in the north want to flip to Kim Jong Un's side, so you know things are getting dire

Go have a look at when China declared tariffs on Australia for questioning COVID-19 and when we retaliated, sizeable bite out of their GDP and we didn't even stop the flow of coal and iron ore. Now imagine if Trump kicks off a war and we're forced to stop altogether while the US navy blockades China. Their One Belt projects all run through conflict zones, and that's if there aren't a few well placed bombs on the train tracks to help it along.
