Russia is a bigger player in this. The whole point of controlling Iran is because it's right on Russia's doorstop. Thanks to shale oil particularly, we know about huge untapped reserves that remain untouched because they are slightly more expensive than conventional deposits to extract.
This means if the global oil prices go up even slightly it is easy to flood the market with new supply and drive prices back down.
