Jesus was a Galilean from Nazareth, north of Samaria, whom the Judeans considered "goyim". Neither of his parents were from Judea. "Judean" (Ioudaios) was a term applied by Greeks and Romans to everyone in the southern Levant regardless of whether they were from Judea or not, because by this stage Jerusalem had become the main city of that region.
