retired navyfag here, you don't get enlistment bonus money up front: they dribble it out to you every year until your enlistment is up. So for a 6 year contract, you'd get about 5k a year in bonuses (oh it's taxed by the way!).

You'd literally make more money working fast food or walmart over the same span of time, with far less risk of injury and the same retards supervising you have way less control over your life. Want to go home and drink? Working for walmart, you supervisor can't do shit. In the Army, you'll have MPs barge into your room and threaten you with jail time unless you do extra hours of unpaid labor.

yes but no. if you have a family you get a housing allowance adjusted for the local cost of living, if you are single you live in the barracks which is free housing but its like living in a commie block full of 18 year old monkeys. food is provided at the dfac, but the army "pays" you a food allowance and then takes it away to cover the "cost" of feeding you, so you'll see it come into and out of your LES every month. you pay for your own uniforms, the uniforms they issue you at basic training come out of your 1st paycheck and everything after that comes out of your own pocket. they give you a clothing allowance once a year but its only enough to buy maybe a good pair of boots or one new uniform.

Add that to your 24k a year salary, which is 16k a year after taxes. Wow you got 21k a year.

I got a "$50K" signing bonus because I scored really high on my lines and was able to get into an incredibly difficult to file star MOS.

You don't actually get a $50K bonus. You get $50K, pre taxed, divided across your entire enlistment period into your by paycheques, which are then taxed, again. The only difference between me and another person enlisting at E-1 like I did was that I made ~$160 extra a month with that $160 persisting throughout my entire enlistment.

Bonus bullshit aside the army was very good to me because I was able to enlist in an extremely hard to fill MOS. I was able to immediately transition to a contractor job as soon as I got out working for the people that made the equipment I specialized in, and was making $135k a year as soon as I ETSed and was hired as a contractor. That $135K didn't include COLA for living overseas, $100 a per diem for food, the dental/medical/optical the company completely covered outside of a small copay (typically $25). Contracting paid extremely well, but the MIC is complete faggots and AIDS, and I had enough money saved up by the time I quite to buy a farm, and start my own company that serviced the contractor I used to work for as a subcontractor. Seriously do not work for a military contractor in the year of our lord 2025 unless you want to be denied promotions or pay raises because they will fuck you over and give all that to nigs, fags, and women who are incapable of doing anything you can do, but which look better on paper.

so yeah, don't enlist in the military unless you are extremely stupid, or incredibly intelligent and extremely apathetic about life to the point you don't have any plans for the future when you graduate high school.

If you fail buds and get put in “needs of the navy” the chances of you getting a shit job are incredibly high. They’re not gonna look at your asvab score and put you in an appropriate job. They’re gonna find a job they need and make sure your asvab is high enough for that job, if that makes sense.

If you’re stuck on seal, you’re stuck on seal, but it’s at least worth looking into combat controller / special reconnaissance / TACP in the Airforce. You could also do PJ but the medical side of stuff never interested me. If you fail out of Air Force selections, the worse job in the Airforce is still 500x better quality of life than the worse job in the navy.

Given that I made it through selection to become a Ranger (RASP), If I could do it all over, I would have went CCT (combat controller) or TACP (tactical air control party).

CCT / SR / PJ are the only jobs in the entire military that give you HALO and Dive school as part of your initial training pipeline, because they are immediately attached to units that specialize in those skills. Neither Navy Seals or Army Special Forces (green beret) get both of those schools off the bat. They each have individual teams that specialize in halo / dive, but it comes later on if you get on that team. I mean seals might come with dive as that’s their specialization, but not every seal / sf has HALO.

There is literally an MOS that has less than 100 people in its entire history that requires perfect line scores, Top Secret clearance, and extensive psychological testing. If you clear you won't even need to look into the job, they are actively hunting you down and snatch you from anywhere else in the Army because they have never been able to fill the slots. It is a guaranteed Warrant within a year unless you are a complete fuck up. The Army can't even fill the gaps by pointing the officer corps towards it because the entire officer class is nepobaby retards. Anyone that is even halfway to the requirements would never join the Army now. When I was in training, I was literally the only person in my class and all my instructors were retirees. It take an extremely rare case of fixation on numbers, mechanical genius, intuitive understanding of electronics, normal enough to pass all the psych/security shit, a complete absence of agency, and yet still be willing to sign the mark contract that makes those positions impossible to fill. When I was still in those kinda jobs were called Star MOS, and mine was the unicorn even among them.

No one with those qualification is enlisting or commissioning in the current year, and the Army's reserves of guys like that are all ETSing because they are old, bitter, and asocial schizos.
