Houses being seen as investments to sell off later rather than places you intend to live.
People design, remodel, decorate, and paint their house with the next person to live in it in mind.
The weird thing is that people don't even fully realize they're basically making themselves live like renters.
Sometimes you got to wake them up. I like to hit them with
>If you're thinking about the resale value of whatever you do to your house you're just building it for the next person and not yourself.
A lot of times that wakes people up.

But the worst of them are the ones that make HOAs a thing. People worrying about what you do with your home because of the resale value of theirs.

Just a massive chunk of the population afraid to consider themselves a permanent fixture in any place.

My guess is because there is a hallway directly behind the couch and they need walking room. That, and because the rug is smaller comparitively to the room size, probably influenced their decision. That couch should be another ~3 feet back but that would only give 2 feet of room for the hallway entrance.

Thing is it's nearly everyone now and the reasons for it are very sad and speak more to the failing state of the society.
Never really being allowed to think of having a rock to cling to. Everything is impermanent in the extreme.
Basically having a dwelling and a community (that is to say the physical location around you) that you can consider permanent for you is seen as a luxury rather than a basic human requirement.

I have recently started seeing commercials on YouTube that are advertising South American countries as a place to retire to.
Think about that...
Things are so fucked that there is a potential market that exists on the idea that you will not be able to afford to retire and live in your current home and you are going to be better off selling off your assets and moving to a whole other country where your money is worth more.
This is something only fringe weirdos would do and now it's something that normie may expect to be an option.

This nation is fucked.
