Probably, I wonder how the future will be. 4chan tends to be pretty pessimistic about the future, and there will be a mix of that in the future but it never breaks completely that way, it never has.
Social media's evolution will likely experience some resistant from society and governments, we've always seen government resistance to some degree since the inception of the internet

What exactly is it about social media that makes it more accessible to the masses that traditional message forums? I've always pondered over this. Some old forums I lurk have a similar like/dislike system, how come they don't have the same mass accessibility as reddit or insta?
