Due to length of Ukrainian Russian border, preventing attacks in all directions is not possible. But they are only making it worse for themselves, since before plan was to take only Donezk/Luhans, now order are to create a buffer land 30 km all along hohol border. So they`ll just loose a lot of territory and we have perfect justifiction since they conduct attacks at uninvolved russian territories from there.

Since 2014 Russia did not even recognize DNR/LNR and Minsk agreements were only about giving them some autonomy (not Crimea though, it was incorporated for good).

In 2022, since Ukraine blatantly violated both Minsk 1 and 2 and shelled Donezk, they were recognized as independent states, and Russian troops moved to Kiev to demand Ukraine recognizes them. Occupation of Ukrainian land never was a goal in 2022, hence the rapid advancement. In Turkey back then agreement was practically reached, but then UK sabotaged it and demanded that Ukraine fight. The negotiator since ukrainian side was litterally murdered in Kiev. Hence actual war began, and at that point Russia took decition to inocporate recognized regions into Russia, since negotiations broke. At first it was only those 2 regions too, but with every escalation from Ukrainian side, it became worse for them. Mariupol, Zaporozhye, soon Sumi. With every day it`ll only get worse.

Initially Russia didnt even bomb Ukraine infrastructure, only after terrorist attacks on Crimean bridge, did we start and even that holding back. Every minute it continue it will be worse for Ukraine, with final end result possibly being its desolution as state completely.
