90% of issues on modern trucks, especially diesels are EGR or DEF, diesel exhaust fluid. Clogs up with soot, destroys the whole engine. The DEF fluid actually freezes and doesnt work for anything with winter, you need to unfreeze the giant block of it inside your car before driving.

Emissions regulations, fuel economy regulations, and safety regulations.
These 3 things combined into such an enormous clusterfuck that every single vehicle produced today is a bloated monstrosity with horrible visibility thanks to politicians and bureaucrats who have no idea how vehicles work.

Add in stuff like cars having 3 foot wide pillars for crash safety and then requiring cameras everywhere because the drivers can't see anything to their sides or behind them, in addition to the UAW absolutely RAPING American automakers in terms of cost per employee (a worker making $15 an hour costs GM $100k per year due to benefits packages, health insurance, and other associated costs), and you get cars and trucks that are built to the largest size possible with the cheapest parts possible.

I drove a company one for a few months and no complaints. I'd be likely to get one if I didn't already have a Prius, wagon and big van I plan on all keeping.

Its the new default "company truck" for anyone who doesn't need a real full size on daily basis.

You can even get the 4wd, 4000lb tow and 40+mpg hybrid in the base trim, at least on paper, might be a wait after order.

It actually seems like a better deal, adjusted for inflation, than my $5995 base model 1989 Toyota Truck, which didn't come with radio or airbags.
