Egypt has come around back to America. Sadat threw the Soviets under the bus in 1976 and made peace with Israel. Egypt was given Major Non-NATO Ally status in 1988 and receives the most aid from the United States (besides Israel of course).

Factions within the US did support them. Our government wasn’t completely infiltrated yet and Israel at the time was a socialist state aligned with the USSR. It wasn’t until the 50s they “liberalized” on paper and it wasn’t until the 60s they actually had a non-socialist government in power.
We wanted to stay out of Israel and the east generally officially because we did not want the USSR casting their gaze upon it and stretching the frontline of Europe into West Asia.
This happened anyway and the Soviets eventually threw their lot in with the Arabs.
