Here let me explain.
Republic = no legal transfer of office by birth, less formally no monarchy.
Democracy = some or all people have a vote that is legally binding on the government by some means
Constitutional = legal authority of the government is derived from a constitutional document
Federation = a nation composed of sub-sovereign entities
The idea that only pure democracies with no representation and only direct voting are democracies is just retarded nonsense that only the USA thinks is real.
Representative government are democracies so long some or all of the representatives are elected by a vote or some chain of derived representation voting. Classically the elected governor or state government appointing senators rather than directly voting for them.
Or the US president that uses the EC as a means to get around the communication lag of the 1700s to elect a president with informed voters that otherwise wouldn't happen because you can't expect everyone to know all the details of a presidential campaign when they live in far off places like West Virginia.
