Why are midwit redditors so obsessed with switching to metric?
Name one benefit of changing all of the road signs in the country to kilometers?
>>507588149 (OP)no dumbfuck martsharts when they come here and drive 60 mph in a 60 kmh zone
>>507588353Sounds like a Canadian problem not an American one
Maybe you should switch to miles
Just do what the rest of the world does, honestly.
Switch to meters, kilograms, liters etc. It causes so much unecessary confusion when an american leaves the country or when someone goes to the US.
>>507588576>It causes so much unecessary confusion wWhy should the world cater to retards?
It's a European attack against America. Europe has like 16 thousand different measuring systems for every kind of thing you would want to do, and as a result, it's nearly impossible to measure anything without a computer omni-tool for transforming French pre-1977 Imperial Cups of fluid, to 1999 reformation Spanish Frenish, which is 1.24375 teaspoons, but only in the German system after Poland invaded Czechoslovakia.
you think I'm joking but this is 100% the case. Automotive, Cooking, measuring an amount of yarn, measuring fluids, measuring powder and weights of stone, are we talking British Imperial or Post French Renissance? Every food you buy, every autopart, every thing you buy at every store in Europe has a differnt measuring system and there are maybe sixteen thousand different systems that are even more arbitrary as the American Standard system.
The Europeans are mearly infecting their disease upon America, which has 2 systems, and not sixteen thousand systems.
Europeans are faggot hipocrites when they say their Metric is better than Standard, is not better, it worse, because if you say yes to metric, you are saying yes to sixteen thousand other systems and now you don't know how much a ton is. You don't know how much volume a gallon is, beause there's the British Imperial Gallon, there's the French Rennasance-Ton, there's the spanish hogshead of counting eggs, and then there is the Italian brumble of buying cows and steers.
Nobody can communicate weights and measures in Europe, if you want to, you have to first agree on a system, and this is hard without a computer omni-tool, which everyone has, and if you scan the boxtop on the box of cereal and automotive part, can load onto your smartphone so you can know how much "40" is. Is 40 just thirty five when when ayatollah says it's a friday? Or is the 40 a 52 when the wind blows from the east on a tuesday and Prague has said the British Imperials have prevailed on the counting system?
>>507588836literally the measuring system of the french revolution
>>507589091The French Revolution is when everything went to the dogs.
>>507588988>It's a European attack against America.dont know about all the rest of what you said but this part is true. its just another way that the eurocommies use to divide their disarmed fag populations from anything associated with the US. Its done exactly the same way in Canada - whatever the US has or stands for is always cast as being bad, morally, practically, whatever, no matter what it is or how its done, the populations of the socialist nations must not think its good.
>>507588149 (OP)Upper level Midwit and builder here. We use both in Canada and it's a pain in the ass. Feet/Inches are definitely better for building. Works better with meters. That's about it.
>>507588149 (OP)There's a serious problem with metric which is that 1 Meter is no longer based off any sensible measurement it is now the distance light travels in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second using a suss constant considering everything else is an approximation.
This means measurements are needlessly complex of course a slack jawed redditor wouldn't be needing to do precise measurements that are encoded in floating point but it's a legit problem for accuracy
>>507588576It's not that hard to switch.
>>507590711>It's not that hard to switch. It is expensive and unnecessary
>>507588149 (OP)because it's le science and science magic is how they prove they are superior to grandma who made them go to church on easter sunday that one time.
There’s two types of unit systems. Those that make sense, and those that have put men on the Moon.
>>507588988metrics much easier as its all expandable by 10, or 100, or 1000.
each different measurement is just one more 0 after the last
10mm is 1cm
100 cm is 1 m
1000m is 1km
>>507591327solution in search of a problem
>>507591327Go ahead and explain why the base SI unit of mass is the kilogram, and not the gram. Pro tip: you can’t.
>>507588353> 60 kmh is 40 mphI drive 60 mph in those, too
>>507588149 (OP)Fuck metric, I can build a house square using my fingers and arms to measure, commie faggot metric niggers can't even comprehend.
>>507591442I would guess it's because they could more accurately get a representation of what weighed 1 kilogram back in the day, whereas weighing 1 gram with precision and distribute to multiple countries would have more inacuracy. That would be my guess.
>>507588149 (OP)It will get rid of the utterly useless and faggy fahrenheit BS
>>507591764Reasonable guess. Iirc the answer was because in revolutionary France the kilogram was more applicable to every day purchases in the market, but it always pissed me off learning dimensional analysis in school. The base unit shouldnt have a 1e3 modifier baked into it.
>>507591849*laughs in Fahrenheit 451*
>>507588149 (OP)Why are burgers so obsessed with sticking with their weird-ass system whose units are actually defined by metric measures?
>>507591327Yes but tell me, what is the exact distance of a meter when you need to transfer that system to a binary encoding. A US imperial inch is pretty easy to define whereas a meter
>Well first you set up a perfect vacuum then measure the distance travelled there and back divided by a gigantic constant and do not have the storage to hold the exact number so must now use rounding schemes...We actually use imperial then convert to meter or else insanity happens when scaling is needed like a trajectory being plotted
>>507588149 (OP)>Name one benefit of changing all of the road signs in the country to kilometers?Inconveniencing your dumbass.
>>507592042>with sticking with their weird-ass systemBecause it works
Why would I want to change something that works fine?
>>507588149 (OP)You could pretend that it's always been that way and people from other countries who are none the wiser wouldn't consider you to be a nation of retards.
>>507592371>consider you to be a nation of retards.Doing things just so people will think you are smart is peak midwit
>>507588149 (OP)the metric system is for drug dealers
>>507592042Why should we do things because everyone else does?
I like how I can look at a bolt and know if its 7/16” or 1/2” etc. metric is annoying. I have to grab a 9mm a 10mm or a 11mm because I can’t tell by sight what size. Turns out to be a 12mm of fucking course
You also used to use inches, miles, gallons and pounds etc.
/pol/ is literally retarded now. It's not the good ole 2010-2015 era anymore, with actual thinkers. Just krusty kangers rooting for their enslavement because it owns the libs.
>Mnemonic. First, you can use “five tomatoes” as a mnemonic for remembering that there are 5280 feet in a mile. “Five tomatoes” is a mnemonic for the number of feet in a mile because it sounds like “five two eight oh.” The number of meters in a kilometer is 1,000.
This false sense of superiority will kill the empire.
>>507588353You think I'm going to drive 40 mph all the fucking way across B.C. every year when I go to Alaska for work?.
Stay out of the way little man that moose bar on the front isn't just for moose.
And tell that mounty in the rusted old '98 Ford pickup up by the Yukon border to stay out of the way as well.
>>507588149 (OP)Fuck knows. We have signs in miles even though people here use the metric system for a lot of things. There's very little difference either way and therefore no good reason to change what you do.
>>507588353I just switch my car to km in settings if I'm gonna go to gayland. Some of them do that now.
>>507588149 (OP)It makes more sense. 100-100-100
>>507593257>100-100-100That why your studs are 1200mm?
>>507588149 (OP)We should. Metric has logical progression in units of measurement. Now, if we just had to be different, then I suppose we could restructure imperial measurement instead; but that would lead to further confusion in the short-term. I don't know why anyone wants to die on the imperial hill. There is no good argument against converting, besides the costs of adjustments to education, road signs, etc. But those costs will come eventually when we eventually do switch; it's inevitable.
>>507593612>Metric has logical progression in units of measurement. No it does not. Being divisible by 10 aint all it claims to be. 'member the metric day / calender? No, you don't
>>507588576Everyone carries around their feet and finger inches. Everyone can roughly measure with these things that all humans possess, except amputees but shut up. No one carries around one ten millionth of the north pole to the equator. Humans can't instantly recognize what that is and there's no way to roughly measure that with body parts.
Miles are retarded but it's basically the distance the average person can run before they burn out. It's an old Roman unit for one thousand paces, but they used a double step as a pace. We use a larger step called yards, but not a double step. A foot is an overstep (so you don't trip). Our long distance measurements got fucked up by the British measuring land parcels with weird distances. The foot, yard, and inch are practical though. The metric system is not. We could perhaps switch to a system based on the average inch and the average foot multiplied by 10, 100, etc.
>>507588149 (OP)Yeah, americans are fucked up with the imperial system.
>>507593719Drugs. Ammunition. Money. You use the better system when shit gets real
>>507588149 (OP)base 10 mental math is easier than base 12, base 5280, base 43560, base 212, etc.
>>507593719Yes, it does. We are discussing measurement here of physical objects (volume, weight, distance, etc.). No one is talking about converting measurement of time; it's not an all or nothing approach.
Imperial is okay, but Fahrenheit is pants on hand retarded turbonigger scale.
>>507588149 (OP)because white people and freedom must be completely crushed for the jew to feel safe and victorious
>>507591849Nigger, it makes sense that it's as hot as it is when it's 98 degrees Fahrenheit. It makes no sense to say it's hot when it's just 36 degrees out. Metrics for measuring heat is retard because human beings are comfortable between 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit since our own bodies are around 98 degrees Fahrenheit.
>>507594775Imperial is what plumbers use along with some metric. They're all confused these days here.
>>507588576So don't go to America brown boy. It's not like you could afford it anyway.
>>507593998We don't call ours .50 cals 12.7s
>>507588149 (OP)mutt bros metric is better
>>507594775It made sense in the 1600s when working with negative numbers was basically witchcraft to the average peasant. 180 being boiling is also easily divided by whole numbers.

>>507595230The world didn't stop in 1776. The electoral college is old fashioned. The metric system is superior. You to will get old. Being on top and being the top are two different things. It's medieval England that you're defending right now. Just say no.
>>507588747We should bring back more imperial units like chains.
>>507595171When americans like Glenn Greenwald are getting fucked by br niggas they think they can't handle the BBC because they confuse 20 cm with 20 inches.
>>507594775Fahrenheit makes way more sense you moron. We are not beakers of water. We're humans.
>>507595722we should rollback all the nations laws to 1776, imo
things were significantly better back then for us
europe is a poison we must not infect ourselves further with
>>507599267what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
>>507599633everything you say is insanely idiotic, you fucking eurotrash
how dare you verbally stain my country on an american website
dont you have a tyrannical government to trample with your tractor?
There exists a clear correlation between usage of the imperial system and being a cancerous faggot.
When people have extremely comfortable lives and aren’t intelligent enough to handle actual big problems and quests, but are just intelligent enough to analyze things as they are, the find problems and causes that don’t matter or miss the point entirely to focus on. Instead of acknowledging the massive black urban crime problem which has ruined the walkable cities we do have, they get autistic about urban planning and scream at Republicans for impeding their projects. Rather than acknowledge that healthcare is so expensive because 30% to 40% of users are not paying and/or are the biggest users of healthcare operating expenses, they just insist on socialized medicine and some kind of government run healthcare scheme. The backbone of leftist politics is the large mass of midwits who are too afraid or too unintelligent to understand things as they really are and should be and instead they have their energy sublimated into this stupid bullshit that just sees the government being a giant jobs program for them and their disabled anxious friends. They’re literally the people Dostoevsky parodied in Notes from the Underground: loser who walk around with ideas about restructuring society in ways that see them overseeing some public funded initiative that they no run or advance in some way. You pay, they get to experiment on you, and if you don’t like that, you’re evil. This is THE backbone of leftism.
>>507592025>>507594919no it doesn't make sense. it truly is retarded and gay. it doesn't make any sense, it comes off like some arbitrary scale invested by a drunk midwit
>>507599841You and me are not that different. Once again; a gram of coke. 20 mm calibre. 10 dollars. It's not that hard.
>>507600650No!
Keep your garbage in the garbage bin (europe).
>>507588149 (OP)Metric is a system created by God hating freemasons. You'll never catch me using it.
>>507600618zero farehnheit was the coldest people could chill water to back in the day. they used an equal mix of water, ice and salt. basing the freezing point on salt water seems a pretty reasonable thing to do since the earth is covered in it and we are also not pure water beings. The Celsius scale began with 100c being when fresh water froze while 0 was when it boiled. all the scales have something less than reasonable about them, just depends on what your perspective is.
