Other than the initial philistine settlement (which is contestable if they were truly foreign or not given a strong linguistic connection to canaanites), there is a clear continuity of population between them and now. Israelites/Hebrews lived among them as we can easily see in the Bible. Neither the egyptians, assyrians, babylonians, persians, greeks, romans or crusaders settled the area. As for the arabs, there was cosmopolitan migration from the muslim world but it wasnt really substatian given the pre-israeli palestinian population and a good deal of them are bedouins who are culturally distict from settled palestinians.

Jerusalem (Al-Quds) is an important city in Christianity, Judaism and Islam. non-negotiable for each. if you don't like those religions or grew up in it it's still important because that's where they come from.
goyim were split up and sent to two ghettos to form their imaginary state, Palestine and each one claims Jerusalem as their own. Gaza is one and full of kids so when it gets bombed they're dying for Judaism or Al-Quds or Jesus or communism or whatever depending who you ask. suddenly those things become very real again even if it's just pictures.
