Yes.
That and computers becoming too easy to use.
During Windows XP days, computers still had the built in retard filter that weeded out normies. They required constant problem solving and this kept a lot of people out.
There was a sweet spot when tech was good, but not too good to be intrusive. Nerds had their own space and normies were outside.
Brief 5-10 year time frame where things were in absolutely perfect balance and then it got fucked beyond belief.

Phones are now mandatory in most places and internet is so mandatory, that access to it is in our constitution.
One day my phone got locked up as I fucked up the pin code too many times.
Instantly I was cut off from everything.
Couldn't log into the site where I could have unfucked my phone, as I needed the ID program for logging in that was on my phone. Couldn't call because I couldn't open my phone.
I had to go to one of the stores to have it fixed.
Phone is nowadays such a necessary lifeline, that you damn well plan and have a backup if your phone fails or gets lost.
I don't even call anyone, I just use the phone for the mandatory stuff that you need it for.
