We should remember that every generation that was subject to the draft had unprecedented economic success, while the ones not subject to the draft have faced economic hardship. Get an identity in the form of rank, instant brotherhood, good salary and lifetime benefits. Most conscription contracts are only 2 years. You’ll spend half of that in basic and predeployment training. The draft solved the Great Depression, it can solve your depression too!

Enlisting puts you in a much better position than drafting; some of those guys were anticipating drafts by lottery, so they enlisted to not be canon fodder.
