Because China has always been very clear about their goals with Taiwan. They expect a peaceful reunion with them over the coming decades when their economy grows to the point that Taiwan itself will ask to be part of China. The only reason they have ever had for invasion is if America takes complete control of Taiwan and is set to use it as a base to attack China at which point China would be forced to take it to deny the Americans a staging post and meat shield since they expect if their economy grows too much the USA under the leadership of its ruling elite will launch an attack on China to stop its growth. America has said as much themselves.
