Russia won't be happy with just Donetsk, their minimal goals include expanding into Odesa (which means also taking Kherson and Mikolayv to get there). The war will continue (if at current pace and nothing radically unique happens) until around 2030, but Russian authorities already said they're preparing for fight for 20+ years if necessary.
Russia is overhauling its military industrial complex this very moment as well, to not only accomodate needs of a long war in Ukraine, but to also reinforce borders with Finland and Baltics

Medynksi (head of the Russian delegation for the war) said this just recently in an interview, as he linked the fight to a long-war similar to the standoff against Sweden. Russia doesn't view the conflict is a one-off thing, it's a strategic/existential conflict which will continue to happen until all goals are met, even if it will require generations to reach those goals.

it really doesn't matter for a war like this, in existential wars people don't give a crap about GeeDeePee or money. In WW2 they fought just with 1 piece of bread as payment for an entire week

the transaction would totally miss the point though, Russia doesn't want NATO in close proximity to its heartland, and exchanging turf just to get that close proximity anyway means a no-deal. There won't be any deal like that.

>Destroyed demographically
>Yes, russia is fucked.
Kind reminder that Russia's population grew by annexing territories, and Ukraine's population shrinked due to losing territories.

Russia and America are way to far apart on terms the best time to end this war was 3 years ago before that fat fuck Boris Johnson flew in, Crimea and Donna's which was majority ethnic Russian. So what the west expects the same terms after 3 years and 100s of thousands of lives Putin would be finished after that

It's important to understand that perceptions of the war matter in order to understand the will and commitment from all parties involved in the conflict.

And while everyone keeps pushing their agenda onto the world from a NATO or Ukrainian perspective (this being a mix of moral jingoism and fanfictions about orcs and elves), the Russian vision of the conflict is always ignored, so here's a quick summary of it:

Russian soldiers: unironically see this as a "holy war". Not just a political conflict, or a territorial conflict, but as a "fight for survival against the devil himself" - these are words from soldiers from the frontlines, not my words.
Russian government: as per recent comments from its top diplomats - Russia sees the war as a modern manifestation of the Great Northern War, which was fought by the Russian Empire for 21 years against Sweden, with intent to destroy Swedish hegemony. However, in this case Swedish hegemony is represented by EU.

When the Russia army and government are convinced they are fighting an "epic war" and not just some proxy conflict, then you should expect total commitment from there side, which puts economy and politics as a secondary after-thought for them. It's really an everything-or-nothing battle.

It does not matter what Russia demands. Reality will be different.
Yes, it's a draw because Putin will not achieve his goals, which he considers existential for Russia. He is not having situation under control and his demands are unacceptable for eu. If either side start collapsing more resources from this side will be allocated. Current offensive speed will oscillate around current trend

Yes, Russia will run out of money. No, it won't collapse. Despite not succeding in his compaign, decision on ceasefire is in his hands. Eu wants war to be over, because ceasefire will benefit them more than Putin. Putin keeps going because he has money to do so. Once he start running out of money (he won't go into critical zone) he'll go for peace

>Eu wants war to be over, because ceasefire will benefit them more than Putin
ceasefire isn't equal end of war
EU doesn't want the war to be over, they just want an (((unconditional))) ceasefire to freely move in more equipment with no repercussions in the meantime to then have some weight for a potential negotiating table. They even want it to last a month or more so that they could capitalize on the time frame properly.
>he'll go for peace
Russia has been inviting Ukraine to peace talks since day 0. There are always excuses from the other side or bold attempts at chutzpah as the aforementioned. EU kikes, Ukrainian kikes, American kikes, none of them are fit for treaty making.

That's the sort of nonsense you sometimes see about the Winter War, which Finland lost, despite people insisting otherwise.
Yeah, they bloodied the bear, but the bear won in the end, snatching away Karelia, parts of Kola, and islands in the Gulf of Findland.
They literally lost part of Finland (Karelia) that Sibelius wrote a suite about.
Sad, but they lost.
Same with Ukraine.

Majority of people here either don't care about the war or willing to die for whatever reasons, but I can say that you can join some sort of "volunteer" group and still be considered as veteran with pretty good payment. So far I can easily expect a war for like 5 years minimum, 10 years is also reasonable.
