The original Christians still saw themselves as Jews, it was only decades-centuries after the fact that Christianity became appreciated as something other than another sect of Judaism in the same vein as the Essenes (which Jesus was one). Christians will deny this, of course, or claim that the Jews today aren't the same as those in 1st century Levant (despite DNA evidence proving otherwise) but that's really just insecurity talking.
