I used to have my own place, a live-in GF, etc. but CoL outpaced my income and I got fucked and had to move back in with my folks. This is something many women don't understand, giving birth doesn't make you a mother. Being a mother makes you a mother. I bought a house which my mom helped me with, my payment is low, she lives with me, we get on, its all good, I keep nearly 80% of my wages. Its much better and more tolerable than living with strangers and paying some landlord cunt. Which I did for many years.

It's cost of living. "You can afford it!", indeed I could. I could toil day and night and just barely scrape by, no hope of a life worth living, no escape but death. Or I could have a job, live at home, and have some disposable income for a while before I need to kill myself. It's a simple answer.

I live in an area where the median household income is ~$70k btw, that's household, and I'm making more than double that by myself, and even I can't afford a house in the town where I grew up. I have a really good job, pay wise I'm in the top 10% if not the top 1%, and I don't live in a major city, and I couldn't afford a house without going paycheck to paycheck. The situation in this country is a lot worse than people are giving it credit for.

Yup here in Canada only the top 10% of earners qualify for a mortgage even if rent in the area exceeds the mortgage for a given property. There's no way I could get into academia and obtain a degree which outpaces the rate of inflation and housing, and trades simply do not pay enough to even consider destroying my body for so, what is left?

Time, I suppose. Though women have a massive advantage in this economy, and I don't see any issues with being a SAHH where the wife is the primary earner, though I doubt a woman's ego would be able to cope with that reality
