Botswana is basically a first world country in 2025 because it has the continent's highest per capita income

Nice a Botswana thread. I've been considering moving there but getting citizenship as a foreigner is pretty difficult I think. I've been a few times. Super nice country, inoffensive blacks and pretty quiet not much crime like South Africa and everything is cheap as fuck. Can get a 2 bedroom apartment in Gaborone for like $150 a month. If you have a remote job you can have western wages and third world prices and it's super nice. Last time I went I bought like 10 Chinese button ups at a market for $1 each and now I can dress like an African Uber electric bike rider.

Too bad half the White population of Botswana left the country. It's only at 53k now and most of them are old, the youth are all in the West and maybe South Africa.

If you look they have only a bare handful of large buildings.

It's literally mostly shacks made of grass or pieces of plywood and tin.

If Elon Musk moved to any of over 150 countries their per capita income would jump into the top 20. Just think of Botswana like that.

You're describing South African ghettos, which are shantytowns

Botswana's cities, on the other hand, are first world and modern

Botswana is doing decently from what i can tell, at least relative to the rest of Africa. But at the end of the day their fertility rate has hit the wall and the countries population will start falling in a decade or so, and given the country has a population of like 2.5mil and is less dense than Canada (and unlike Canada lacks significant immigration) it's unlikely they'll be able to do too much going forward.

Botswana has some of the worst inequality in the world, it's still a shithole for most people. Only the top few live well. South Africa is the same. It's just the nature of mineral extraction rackets disguised as countries.
