some guy used to post old scans of how to do it and lengths etc.
the thing about antennas is they're all just a "wire" at the end of the day. The length of them is what matters. Quarter wave/ half wave etc. If you want to get started cheap rtl-sdr is a good bet. Hack RF one is a bit of a step up, then you've got a ton of options if you want to spend more on it.
