>>507815188 (OP)>>507815878Bobby Fischer came out of retirement/seclusion in the early 90's because a wealthy chess fan offered him and Spasky millions of dollars to have a rematch of their 1972 world championship. Fischer agreed, but the match was to be played in a country against which the United States had active trade sanctions. The U.S. State Department sent Bobby a letter warning him not to play the match, and he promptly held a news conference during which he spit on the letter. Fischer and Spasky played the match — Fischer won — and then the U.S. government siezed a storage unit the Bobby was renting (maybe in Los Angeles, I think.) In the storage unit was a lifetime of Fischer's chess-related paraphernalia, including trophies, correspondence with famous people, books, score sheets, etc. Bobby was furious and never returned to the U.S. He identified the Jewish mafia as the cause of his woes. He traveled to Japan and then Iceland, where he eventually died and was buried at the age of 64 (squares on a chessboard.)
