The greatest offender is the idea that you are either completely free or fsin or eternally damned, no inbetween. It gives justification to do absolutely anything to people for the smallest reason as you are saving their souls.

The problem is that you can justify absolut6ely anything with a strictly literal interpretation of the bible, especially as more than half of it is the old testament which is dedicated to the immensely brutal and unforgiving god of the jews, Yahweh.
The Bible is a highly abstract work filled with mistranslations and amibguity -which is why the faiths created by educated men like Luther or Calvin where functional, while the literal interpretations made by drooling peasant buffoons all resulted in deranged lunacy.
