The director, who previously helmed three "Guardians of the Galaxy" films for Marvel, said Disney's corporate directive to increase output destroyed the studio's creative process. "They were under a corporate mandate, yeah. That wasn't fair. It wasn't right. And it killed them," Gunn said, referring to Marvel's mandated production quotas for movies and television shows.

By contrast, Gunn said DC Studios operates without numerical mandates. "We don't have the mandate to have a certain amount of movies and TV shows every year. So we're going to put out everything that we think is of the highest quality," he explained.

Hollywood, Pinewood, Bollywood, Morningwood been making media and entertainment since the early 1900's with radio and print media long before that. It's obvious they have no talent to create new and original stories that function and sell.

Good modern films, Godzilla Minus One was legit good and a celebration of men and the family (we'll see if they poz out in the sequel, it got a lot of Hollywood attention). The new Wonka was also a surprisingly good, optimistic breath of fresh air. The kid actor couldn't act to save her life, but the rest was really, really solid. It was like a high budget musical/stageplay. Furiosa was also insanely good and got caught up in the "stronk female" marketing, mind you I hated her and Fury Road but this movie actually makes her weak in a realistic way, introduces a super cool male lead, no poz, and if you like the directing style in MGSV, you'll really like it.

The industry is dying because the accountants are running the show. You've got actuaries leading productions and actors answering to analysts. Everything about the industry has condensed into supporting a handful of "safe", "financially sound" big tentpole productions every year, and every step of the process is meticulously meddled with and focus grouped to the point where you've got people doing reshoots and reedits up to the week of distribution trying to algorithm their way to a blockbuster hit.

Fifty years ago the industry was very different. Budgets were lower, but there were more productions. Studios identified talented writers, directors, actors, effects people, etc. and teamed them together, let them make something that was new and original and creative. The vast majority of these projects flopped or had middling box office performance, but the studios banked on a handful of these movies breaking through, and that model was great, it got people into the theaters on a regular basis because there was a lot to see and there was almost always something for everyone. But condensing it down to a handful of movies a year, most of which are the same, copypasted, studio micromanaged crap is driving people away from movies as a medium.

I'll take it simply because it didn't upstage the legacy character. At no point did any of the diversity outdo Wonka or upstage him. About the worst thing is that it implied he was a jew due to his super jew looking mother, but even that wasn't established or forced, then, like I said, the female lead being a dei hire definitely hurt some of the acting and songs we could have had. The songs were still really solid, but the girl they hired couldn't hit some of those notes at all and I have no doubt there were actresses who could have that were simply the "wrong look". My dad is a movie/TV art director with a 40+ year career, mostly retired now. I grew up in LA around the industry because of that. My dad's union (IATSE 800) is at something like 80% unemployment right now.

My dad's take on why things are so fucked
