It's not really about 'our interests'; it's about inevitability. This is what? The third or fourth time Israel has 'disabled' Iran's nuclear weapons project? How many more times are they going to have to do this? How many more times until Iran simply beats Israel to the punch and detonates a surprise test nuke? Israel is simply going to have to accept a nuclear Iran. They are going to have to learn to play nice with other nuclear powers. They aren't going to be able to bomb children anymore just because Iran said mean things - and that will of course go both ways. We have to do it all the time with Russia and China and they are going to have to figure it out as well.

Obviously not, but people are only capable of thinking in dialectics. Either Iran is necessarily the bad guy and Israel the good guy or Iran is necessarily the good guy and Israel the bad guy. There is absolutely no room for a practical alternative in American minds.

Of course that's our policy, and of course it's impossible to enforce. Russia, China, North Korea, India, Pakistan - Fucking ISRAEL (who stole U238 from fucking Pennsylvania to make their nukes) - all of these instances in which the policy of obstructing nuclear proliferation has achieved nothing. It's just words on paper. It always comes down to diplomacy. It will be no different with Iran, and anyone saying anything else is lying to themselves for comfort.
