If you could freeze technological progress at any point in history, like just stopping it there permanently, what year/era would you choose?

Or just exercise some damn self-control, but that seems impossible for a lot of people. I have a current gen flagship smartphone but I don't spend my whole life glued to it, I just use it for taking pictures, GPS when I'm in an unfamiliar area, googling shit when I need info on something, etc. It really freaks me out how compulsive people are about pulling their phones out and doomscrolling social media whenever there's the slightest lull, even my late 70s boomer parents do it.

The Amish probably nailed it. The problem is the world will overtake them and they won't be long for the world unless they adapt.

We should probably limit technology that has a degenerative effect like narcotics and to an extent videogames, porn and movies, especially when it is controlled by nefarious states and corporations.

Medieval era, I think that's the greatest technological era, if you measure individual human quality of life.

Now the industrial revolution increased the amount of human lives exponentially, so there are more "high quality" lives being lived currently, but in the medieval era the "quality lives" were a much higher percentage of all human lives.

They have. Most Amish have trucks, computers, phones, power tools, generators or solar to run them, etc. They just only use them for work and other practical purposes and avoid modern tech in their households and leisure time. I think there are still some fundamentalist communities that avoid them but they're the minority. (Also, no, I'm not talking about Mennonites.)

When everyone else uses a technology itโ€™s basically self sabotage not to use it. I tried to go car free for a year in my 20s. I barely even used the bus. Just walked or biked everywhere. It was fine but also retarded in a way
>all of the jobs I wrote off due to transport
>limited amount of groceries I could carry
>spend half a day trekking somewhere others can do in 10 minutes at highway speeds

When everyone walks, walking is fine because all of society is built around walking. When your the odd man out in a world of cars you are fighting the laws of physics.

Similar story with cell phones and smartphones.

The problem isn't people like you or me using smartphones, it's all the absolutely retarded gorilla niggers and roastie women and old ass boomers and bobs and vegene pajeets who suddenly became connected to the internet 24/7 with their smartphones.
Before 2007, the vast majority of those people didn't spend a significant amount of time on the internet, and before ~2002 virtually none of them ever used the internet because most normies were still using shitty dial up internet, if they even had home internet access at all. In the early 2000s, it was fairly common for normal, non-nerd adults to just not have access to the internet unless they went to a library or college campus.

1967. IMO the two inventions that really fucked things up were the intermodal shipping container and international computerized banking networks, both of which allowed global corporations to take over and fuck everything up. Freeze things at 1967 and it's modern enough that it wouldn't feel like going back to the dark ages (decent medical care and hygiene standards, cars, jets, etc.) but avoids the critical innovations that allowed globalism and megacorps to rise and destroy everything.
