What is the reason US servicemen kill themselves in much higher rates than deaths they even faced in combat on-duty?

This is the first time I've seen warriors from any nation an hero themselves after wars they pretty much dominated.

Probably guilt from killing civilians rather than engaging in actual warfare with a trained and armed and equipped adversary.
