Orthodoxy and Catholicism are basically the same religion. Catholicism was for the western Roman Empire and Orthodoxy was for the eastern Roman Empire.

In Orthodoxy, everyone can potentially be a heretic, heresy is broadly defined as deviation from the teachings of the Church Fathers, therefore those who say the death penalty is inherently wicked (as the popes do, contrary to the Bible and 1,000+ years of patristic teaching) are automatically heretics and can be freely denounced even by laypeople.

The religions are quite different and this is why Russia is a tranny-free zone while almost every Catholic country in the West is currently molesting and mutilating children openly.
