They've had total cultural and political hegemony in Afghanistan for almost 20 years through their puppet regime and implemented a ton of western liberal policies, hoping they can change the mindset of a 1500 year old civilization.
It failed in a spectacular fashion. As soon as they retreated, every single social and political reform they've implemented was instantly reversed by the population, who never held any sympathy towards them and instead they pledged themselves to the Taliban who steamrolled through the entire country in a week with the full support of the population.
And those same retarded liberals still can't wrap their heads around the fact that they can't just barge into a country, topple the government and expect everyone to adopt their gay liberal values. If anything, it will only lead to massive resentment. They're trying to do the same in Iran now. Again, their base notion is that liberal democracy is the peak of human civilization and every human being wants to live in such a system, therefore it's their moral duty to bring this wonderful system to them, even by force, if necessary.
