That's a stores dumpster where they dump expired shit.
Way back when I was a teen there was this place me and my friends went that had a chip dumpster and most the chips weren't even expired. Bags of chips were all they put in the dumpster so it was clean af. We'd get high burn cruising around then we'd go raid the chip dumpster. Shit was so cash. They had all kinds of good ass chips in there, we'd stock up and drive around for hours just fucking around smoking shit tons of weed and eating chips. Those were the fucking days.

>That's a stores dumpster where they dump expired shit.
Exactly. The only strange thing is that its in an open container where birds could get to it and strew the trash all around.
But such dumpsters, just covered ones, obviously exist everywhere in the world.
Maybe not in india where they will just sell the food anyway if its expired because they're scammers, but otherwise its literally impossible to predict 100% of how much stock you need in a grocery store, so there will always be spoilage.

Actually I was thinking about this lately. Should supermarkets be banned and only local shops selling their own products allowed in each village? No more shipping foods, if it isn't local you can't have it. Exception could be things like wheat but then bread and pasta are locally produced.

My store started locking the dumpsters because homeless cunts were making a mess looking for the big ticket items. June heat scraping rotting produce off the asphalt where we took smoke breaks was infuriating. We defaced any high value items or cut them up before tossing in the trash because resale. In the winter I would "throw away spoiled or contaminated inventory" stash nice marbled steaks, fresh chicken, veggies, candy and pop in the dumpster, put it in a plastic bag during cold winter months so it was refrigerated and picked it up at night with a mask on behind the store, hours after close. Nice while it lasted, no one knew and we threw away tons of good shit so its not like it mattered. Tax write offs and overhead

Yeah but it's better to sell it, there's surprisingly little stuff that gets thrown away when i worked at one anyway. Most shit ends up getting marked down and sold.
The op pic is a very unusually high amount of stuff but i guess american supermarkets are massive, maybe the wagies were lazy and didn't mark any of it down.

With a shitty economy, that's how they're doing it these days. Old bread that is hard as a rock but 1 day before expiration? Clearance shelf. Obscure shit that isn't selling well or lost damaged packaging from a return? Clearance shelf.

It's shameless here, they mark it down 30% to 50%, the perishables are practically inedible, but the rest can be good deals if you are looking for it. In the better economy we used to toss everything, no fucks given, new shipment of produce or meat, we tossed the old shit to make room for new. All edible, just no system in place that's worth it without turning into a charity. I don't feel bad about food I stole

Here we have old fuckers and hippies that follow you around as you're marking stuff down or sometimes even asking you to mark stuff down. There was this old foreign couple that would badger you to start marking the milk down and then they'd buy a whole trolley of it, i hope they were making cheese or something and not reselling it.
I used to hide my label printer and pretend i was doing something else so i wouldn't get bothered.

dumpster diving is distinctly white trash either in the crust punk or tweaker category. what you're thinking of is stealing shit off shelves.

if you're totally broke dumpster diving food is based as fuck. i haven't done it in a decade but back in the early 2010's it was a goldmine if you knew what to get and what to pass on.

I will say, the amount of food waste from my company is insane. They refuse to give it away out of fear of lawsuits claiming food poisoning. I would estimate in my state alone there reaches well over ten thousand dollars in food waste a day. The actual number is difficult to pen down, and this is just one business out of hundreds.

The guy who lived across the street from us had a vending machine route. When he pulled chips and other items from vending machines because they were approaching their sell by date, he'd make up boxes for us and a couple of other neighbors. Then he'd send his teenage daughter over to deliver the box. Too bad she was hideous but we still enjoyed all the free snacks.

It being an open dumpster like that supports your theory. I've noticed few stores have large generators anymore. When I worked in a large grocery store, we could go a day without power before we had to throw anything away because there was a generator that would run the refrigeration equipment. Now the stores, at least around here, just throws everything away if the power goes out for more than a couple of hours. Guess some accountants crunched the numbers and decided it was better to do that once in a while instead of having large generators on standby and in good working order.
