I'm reading a Webnovel and the author kept wanking Hungary especially the Hungarian Black Army stating that it BTFO'd Austrians, Hussites, and even the fucking Ottomans at their peak with their Janissaries.

Is the author fucking bullshitting me or were these Subhuman Magyar Catholics really that strong in 15th Century?

They were good. I remember there was this hungarian guy nicknamed "the hammer of arabs", "arab skull smasher", smt like that. A Hungarian anon could contribute more to this thread, but they were good.

the black army was pretty strong, but also extremely expensive, the taxes under matthias were super high and impossible to maintain, eventually there was just not enough money to maintain the army, basically he just hired all the best and most expensive mercenaries that he could find, formed them into an army and then no wonder that it was strong, but also too expensive

Hungarian calvary was the stuff of legends.
Unfortunately they were still using horses when most other countries were building tanks, and it didn't work out too well for them.

Correct. Though remember that the Ottomans had much more on their plate at the time like the Aq Qoyunlu, the Portuguese and the Venetians, so it's not like Hungary was soloing a unified monolith, and their peak wouldn't even arrive until Suleiman, which is decades after all this. Nevertheless, the credits are indeed due.

They objectively weren't, they got demolished in 1526 and split in three. Fagyars will cope hard but history is clear on this.

Au contraire, my friend. Hungary had easily the most prolific domestic tank production outside the big three of the Axis, even if the most promising types never got through prototype phase in time.
