You might be right.
According to Grok they only have 600 nukes.
I ask Grok to see how it thinks China would allocate them.

In a hypothetical global war, Chinaโ€™s 600 nuclear warheads would likely be allocated as follows:

> United States: 250-300 warheads (military bases, command centers, nuclear sites).
> Japan: 50-75 warheads (U.S. bases like Okinawa, Yokosuka).
> South Korea: 30-50 warheads (Camp Humphreys, Osan Air Base).
> Australia: 20-50 warheads (Pine Gap, HMAS Stirling, RAAF Tindal).
> NATO/Europe: 50-75 warheads (Ramstein, UK bases, missile defenses).
> Reserve: 50-75 warheads (for second strikes).

>China would prioritize U.S. military and nuclear assets, with allies targeted to disrupt U.S. operations. Nuclear use risks catastrophic global fallout and retaliation, making it a last resort.

There wouldn't be enough fallout to cause a nuclear winter. Modern thermonuclear weapons rely on hydrogen fusion as the main explosive force which doesn't create radioactive isotopes (just fuses hydrogen into helium). The uranium or plutonium components produce fallout but because they're just used to trigger the fusion there's much less fallout than in conventional nuclear weapons.

Plus there's been over 2000 test detonations of nuclear weapons with no wider ecological effects, so the idea of a nuclear winter is absurd. Really only way a nuclear winter would be feasible would be upper atmosphere detonations of tens of thousands of cobalt salted nuclear weapons which nobody developed.
