Here in Australia there is massive gatekeeping in the job market, when I applied for a job at a factory they made me do 6 hour induction in broken AI indian English and then the HR lady called me to ask for 2 more references of my previous employers in the last 5 years, she spoke in some tagalog dialect I am a linguist and I could barely fucking understand her. I told her How could I have 2 more references like that if I kept the same job for 5 years and she hung up on me. I think when I get to induction day it's going to be oops all pajeets and flips because they really did their best to push out every other option besides their precious brown foreigners.
Can't hate foreigners enough. Total immigrant genocide now.

We're teetering on the edge with ai, everything we hear about it is how it's just on the cusp of replacing all these white collar jobs, including stuff like research positions, but we sort of just have to take silicon valley's word for it right now, so a lot of places are in a holding pattern of not investing in new employees for probably a year or 2 here to see how everything shakes out with ai.
