I have a friend who got prescribed so many drugs he is barely sentient anymore. I don't even know if he can tell if he is awake or asleep. How many people are walking around like this? Especially women, they all seem to be on drugs.

It's important to not dehumanize NPCs. That can lead to genocide. Think of them rather as people who haven't woken up yet.
There are at least three contributing factors to understand modern NPCs.

This is the most insidious of the three and causes the other two. Interest and inflation have gotten so out of hand that they are killing the golden goose. It affects poor people the worst because their wages effectively go down every year.

I think meds is the reason. During covid the two people who I know for a fact are on meds (one for anxiety the other bipolar) were the ones who treated me the worst for remaining pureblood. I think these meds inhibit their intuitions. Their subconscious would normally be screaming at them that something is very wrong and to change what they're doing, but rather than listen to it they shut it up with meds.
There are many such cases, especially women. They're not equipped to deal with the world the way feminism expects.
