Iran is "close" by land, but it's further away than the US by sea. The only way to do a ground invasion would be to go through a bunch of other countries which would start a bunch of wars there too. Would also drag the US back into Iraq again. Also Iran is extremely mountainous and all the major population centers are inland, so it's even worse than Afghanistan terrain-wise.
