I don't think prong collars are needed for highly intelligent dogs. Prongs are just a negative-training tool, same with ecollars; they have their merits which get the job done faster but most dogfags say it'll increase the dog's aggression. PETA is fucking retarded. I have a real Bull Lurcher bred from strict hunting lines, from a hunting Mastiff/Lurcher kennel and I didnt use a prong collar on him, but I probably should have. Using a prong collar is 100% safer than getting a heavy duty collar and just using sheer brute force which is what I did.

They are only used for larger working breeds with strong drive though. Prong collars dont break skin, the dog breeds its used on have excess skin, thicker skin, and super dense musculature around the neck. It just puts pressure on them and they teach themselves to avoid the pressure by not pulling. Its safer than a heavy duty collar and using brute strength, because driven working breeds just wont stop. When my Lurcher goes into drive he will gladly hang himself from his entire body weight and just not give a single fuck, and he can go for minutes that way before he will heel.

My Lurcher has broken 3 auto retract leashes, there is no way a woman can handle a working mastiff or hunting dog in drive without a prong collar. Its easy for people with little ankle biter castle breeds or Retriever breeds to be against prong collars, but get a real working breed and get your shoulder dislocated and be sitting at the doctors office and ask yourself who is the more delicate animal.

Seems excessive. Thoughtfully training a dog from the youngest possible age is by far the best way to ensure it's well behaved and obedient. Pain compliance collars are just shortcuts.
One of my childhood dogs would pull on the lead and my dad got her a choke chain (not a prong collar). I thought it would hurt the dog, but for years she would still happily pull as hard as she could on walks. I could hear her restricting her own breathing and she never let up or complained.

We've only ever used choker collars or shock collars and that was just when the dog was younger and being trained. They get put away and collect dust when the dog gets older. I would never use a prong collar though.

The dog should have the least harsh method that results in a behavior change. If your dog can be corrected with a harness, then that's all the lead it needs. If it can't, then step up to a collar. If that doesn't work step up to choke, then if they doesn't work, prong. Once the dog gets the lesson, step back down to the minimum necessary. Every collar type, used properly, is ethical.

People forget the end result is to create a happy dog that is welcome everywhere because it's trained. A dog who never receives training will never have a full life.

And I had trained him since 10 weeks, every morning, multiple types of exercises and behaviour training for 2 years

I used a prong collar for a while on a couple bigger dogs I had. One was an american pitbull terrier, the other was a black lab. Both were friendly but would pull so hard on a regular collar that they would start to choke themselves. They were both young, strong males, and didn't care, but they would pull so hard you could hear their breathing start stilting, and then they'd start choking and coughing, but kept pulling regardless.

The prong collar stopped that. The prongs aren't sharp, they're not needles or anything, but they are impossible to pull on with the kind of force my dogs would pull on a regular collar. I could see someone abusing the tool, yanking on the leash or something to hurt the dog, but this is a problem with the person using it, not with the tool itself.

For me, I would stand in one place, let them pull away, and then let them stop pulling as they realized the prongs were uncomfortable, coming back to me.

I thought that too about my dog. Then I let her roam free at an 3/4 enclosed Dog beach, was open to the water side.
Then suddenly I spotted a rabbit. and the dog spotted him too and went nuts. I've never heard him yelping like that. The rabbit escaped through the fence and my dog frantically searched the fence for loopholes.
I know If he found a way around the fence furter down the beach side, like as if he was circumventing the Maginot Line, I would not see him again for hours.
My dog learned to behave better but some encounters just send him over the edge.
luckily I managed to grab him but then the rabbit returned, smirking at him from the other side of the fence and he lost his mind again.
