I read about that town before, and it was horrifying.

that having been said, aesbestos sealed away is excellent, just like leaded solder. we spend billions tearing the aesbestos out of old buildings and agitating it for no reason instead of leaving it the fuck alone between the walls.

Yeah there’s nothing wrong with asbestos until you turn it to dust.
When I was travelling overseas I worked at a Heinz factory for a bit and their internal ceilings were made out of it.
Pretty sure portions of my current house are too, because there are a couple of sheets of it that have been here since I moved in, maybe it’s in the roof or something, who knows.
Not losing any sleep over it.

Asbestos was made a health hazard ONLY because their see through technology can’t see through it.
They must be able to see inside houses with IR tech. National security depends upon you being visible by satellite.

But asbestos has many good and safe uses.

So it’s bad to hide valuables underneath some out near the junk pile.

Don’t do it. Don’t hide shit under asbestos

yea the hysteria over it especially here in america is wild. there was a school not far from my friend that was severely understaffed and underperforming. they then spent tens of millions tearing asbestos out of the walls while students spent months in trailers. the building was solid and in good standing, not dilapidated. massive waste of money. the asbestos was sealed in walls between concrete, cinderblocks, steel, and brick.

wheeew.

The problem isn't even that it turns into dust when you fuck with it, the biggest problem is it still powders and turns to dust on its own even when left alone because the adhesive fails over time, or people bump/damage it while working around it.

It's good at insulating, but it's just so laughably cancerous there really is no safe way to handle it

what? people that currently die from asbestos are geezers who were exposed to it before militaries and companies told people it was dangerous and that they should wear protective gear when handling it. it sucks that military vets and workers died from it, but that doesnt mean it's "bad". many commonplace things can be highly dangerous when mishandled.

More than that, all the less lethal fire retardants are still killing people. Whether its brominated or antimony, they are less effective than asbestos and still deadly. Antimony binds to your skeleton if it touches you. The answer for asbestos is to create safety measures and safe disposal methods, not ban the most effective fire protection we have.

Also none of what i said should be considered support for donald trump. He absolutely betrayed all of us and i will never trust that zogbot again. Even if he makes the right choice and backs away from bombing iran, i'll never forget that his true allegiance lies with israel.

Asbestos when disturbed, like demolition or renovation has particles that will shred your lungs. Air is tested, material is constantly wet when it is removed. It is done inside enclosures with negative air machines depending on location and scope of work. This would be a great investment for future removal industry after another generation dies from lack of breathing.

Its probably more about remediation than using it for new stuff.
Right now there are a SHITLOAD of old buildings that can't be renovated or upgraded because they have asbestos in them and the cost of removing asbestos from a building is usually more than just building an entirely new building.
Its a serious problem and we need a better way to deal with it.

Its a pretty easy hazard to mitigate, just dont breath the fucking fibers.
So, no grinding or cutting it.
Using it in brake pads is also definitely out.
A piece of asbestos just sitting there won't hurt anyone.
This is why we allow people to still work and live in buildings with asbestos.

We put the lead in deliberately as an additive.

It doesn't save money to put lead in it.

Benefits of asbestos:
