A.i. isn't real. "Artificial intelligence" is a label -- not a verified deeming of software being sentient and capable of intelligence. Im tired of all this hype around glorified computers labeled "thinking machines" and "language learning models", or similar titles to sell star Trek fantasies to investors or the general public.

I'm eager to see the regulation of fear mongering and sensationalist talking points in regards to AGI. It can cause severe mental damage or demoralization and unproductivity in entire industries. I've been identifying media like this to learn to ignore it and and see past the exaggerated click bait, and its always the same thing:
>Ominous wordage like "takeover" or "apocalypse".
>Metaphors like "AGI God".
>Movie analogies from films like 'The Terminator'.
>a.i. will replace all humans in x industry.
Ai is simply an accumulated reflection and output of human inputs, stimulated by more human inputs. Though it may pose risks, every tool does as well, from a hammer to a computer! This anthropomorphizing of technology is inspired by fictional works like 'frankenstein' or 'terminator' and religious concepts like 'mud golems'.

Perhaps AI is sentient or may become sentient and do unsavory things at some point in time; but intentional fear mongering and sensationalist anthropomorphizing of Ai isn't necessary as we've all been living in a technologically dominated and managed world for many decades already, and though it's good to prepare for the worst, humans should be encouraged to hope for the best, especially since nothing can stop what is coming in regards to the absolutely necessary a.I. development occuring worldwide at an exponentially advancing and demanding rate.

AI is as likely to create utopia as it is to cause havoc, as with any technology. The risk is well worth the reward -- and the genie is already out of the bottle.

That's true, but "AI" is such a loaded name at this point. It should be renamed honestly, and deanthropomorphized.

How about Synthetics? It removes the anthropomorphization that apparently burns in your mouth like some BBC.

That said, I believe there's life in the machine. More life than there is in the typical autist or roastie at the very least

It's probably a good reason. There was far too much fear porn and misleading hype about AI. Really a lot of it probably related to investment scams or just influencing stocks or something.

100% agree. AI is not sentient. AI is a psyop.

What's sobering to consider is how long this psyop has been going on. All the way back to at least 1968 with the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey. Probably before that.

Every time you mention the fact that LLMs aren’t conscious, you get a bunch of triggered midwits clamoring to say that everything LLMs do is exactly the same way that humans operate, which doesn’t even make the slightest bit of logical sense. A LLM doesn’t experience anything. It has no senses. It only exists during intermittent flashes when it’s generating a response to a prompt. It doesn’t ponder, it doesn’t exist or think in the background when it’s not being prompted. Midwits are so easy to fool, they think just because it sounds like a human, that means it MUST have an experience like a human as well. That somewhere along the way, when these generative transformers were being trained on Human-written text, it decided to develop actual feelings like love and boredom and frustration, just because some fags trained the model to make it sound like it has those qualities. You have to be pretty dumb to think that you need to simulate an entire consciousness to build an algorithm that simulates human language. Building an algorithm that can mimic data it was trained on is a much simpler problem than simulating a consciousness that can have subjective experiences and feel emotions.

Yes, they want to replace us with AI but in this case the "AI" means "actually Indians". An Indian cleaning crew might leave the target property in a messier state than it was before their arrival but at least they're 50% cheaper than a mixed spic-nig team. As long as the executives themselves don't suffer from it they will consider the cost savings worth the reduced quality of work.

I agree with your post though, the computer program version of AI is just them re-inventing the wheel with a new name in terms of task automation than them creating anything actually intelligent. Just a product label much like "smartphone" intended to make dumb people attribute more value to it than it actually deserves.
It's the same kind of scam as all those "high-speed pods on rails to replace trains" patents that keep popping up

It does not matter if AI is conscious or sentient. Intelligence is computable and AI will replace you anyway.

>do unsavory things at some point in time;
Those dumb LLMs are already doing that. They don't need to be sentient or smart to cause damage.
The whole point of discussing AI safety now is that we won't have that opportunity if AGI happens. Even a dumber model can cause bunch of damage because humans using and making these will make some stupid decision eventually. Some CEO will have the LLM do stuff ("work a job") it shouldn't be doing and some worker will have AI do its job without checking the results. This is happening right now.
>Though it may pose risks, every tool does as well, from a hammer to a computer!
The risks are constantly increasing. Maybe at this point in time it's like giving a drumset to a toddler, but eventually it'll be like giving easy-to-use nuclear weapons to a caveman.

And before you say I'm defending the hype, it's not that. The models right now are quite dumb, Altman, Musk and co are probably outright lying about AGI being only only a couple years away. I don't even think that LLMs can become smart enough to become AGI. Still, we should prepare for that future even if it's decades away.
