The president can only remove them "for cause" meaning criminal acts or other shit. They serve a off election(mid term) 4 year term for the chairman and the regular governors get FOURTEEN year terms. Normally a governor will resign when asked/new admin comes with a different approach but they legally never have had to. Guess what happened? The tradition was broken when Trump came in and all of the dem nominations didn't step down and timed it up so when biden got in they made sure they have that stacked up.

Assuming JD Vance or some other R carries the MAGA movement forward they won't be able to remake the fed board until AFTER two more election cycles. 2026 2028.
